[ARCHIVED] NYS NEEDS TO

NYS SHOULD MAKE IT EASIER TO STARTVACCINATING PEOPLE WITH UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS

NYSNEEDS TO MAKE IT EASIER TO START VACCINATING  WITH UNDERLYING CONDITIONS OR WHOSE  IMMUNOSUPPRESSED

The CDC has urged states to start vaccinating everyone—even under 65—with “underlying conditions” or who’s “immunosuppressed.” We know how other states define such categories.  The state has not yet defined what underlying conditions are.  Every day that goes by  means that those with  compromised medical problems will have to wait longer for the vaccines -a big health risk. The problem is that for people who want to sign up for a vaccine, they first have to state eligibility, which means declaring age of 65, or healthcare worker, etc, but those categories don’t yet include “underlying conditions.” So they are blocked from making an appointment. This is  another state bureaucratic snafu, which should be obviously and immediately fixable.

A NOTE FROM THE GOVERNORS OFFICE TO ME

The Governor's office sent me an e mail yesterday asking me to be patient. They mentioned that they are "working as best and as fast as we can to get all of these issues resolved" and   mentioned that the "federal government is only giving the entire state 300,000 dosages per week. We are working on fixing the online appointment system and the call system as humanly possible. Please, please, please have some patience."

COVID ANGELS TO START MAKING CALLS TO SENIORS - HELPING THEM NAVIGATE THE VACCINE REGISTRATION AND APPOINTMENT PROCESS

Over 70 volunteers have signed up to help make calls to seniors helping them navigate the vaccine process. We're holding our first organizational meeting tonight and hope to start helping seniors next week.   Many seniors don't have computers, don't know how to register for an appointment. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you know of a senior who needs our help please e mail me there contact info in the event  we don't contact them first.  pfeiner@greenburghny.com
