[ARCHIVED] Part time economic development coordinator suggested for town

$20 for 5 appetizers at best restaurants in Hastings this Friday...rivertowns holiday trolley this Saturday--seeking supermarket in Fariview

PART TIME ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR SUGGESTED..$20 FOR 5 APPETIZERS AT BEST RESTAURANTS IN HASTINGS FRIDAY NIGHT...TROLLY THIS SATURDAY IN RIVER VILLAGES...SEEKING SUPERMARKET IN FAIRVIEW

At the Town Board work session yesterday afternoon I suggested that we amend the proposed budget to include funding for a part time economic development coordinator - a recommendation advocated by some members of the Greenburgh Planning Board in the past. I'd like to start with a part time position. I met with yesterday with Barbara Prisament who works part time for the village of Hastings and other municipalities and am very impressed with the successes she has had making the downtown areas more exciting - with fun events. The village has been able to attract new businesses and has helped existing businesses obtain free publicity.

The Town Board will discuss the proposal during the budget process and next year. Goals for the part time position would be:

1) To encourage a landlord in the Fairview section of Greenburgh to rent to a supermarket. A few weeks ago I met with a supermarket owner who is willing to open up a supermarket if we could find space (9,000 to 20,000 square feet). All we need is a landlord willing to rent. A part time economic development coordinator could develop relationships with small supermarkets and landlords and help us with this initiative. Many residents of Fairview have pushed for a supermarket. Let's try hard to make this happen!

2) To help us attract small businesses to replace vacant storefronts on E Hartsdale Ave, Central Ave, Route 119 and Saw Mill River Road.

3) To come up with exciting and fun programs for E Hartsdale Ave --that will make people want to come to the downtown area and shop.
