METRO NORTH TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR ELEVATOR AT HARTSDALE TRAIN STATION AT 4 PM TOMORROW
Metro North/MTA plans to construct various improvements to the Hartsdale Train Station beginning in 2020. A primary component of the improvements include an elevator at the station and related pedestrian and platform improvements. At a work session tomorrow representatives from Metro North/MTA will make a presentation detailing the scope and timeframe for the project. This discussion will begin at 4:00pm and will be immediately followed by discussion with the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works regarding the 2020 DPW budget. At 7 PM we will hold the 2nd public hearing on the proposed tree law. No vote will take place tomorrow evening on the law.
I have been pushing for elevators at the Hartsdale train station for many years. In 2004 I met with the former President of Metro North and organized a citizens lobbying effort. I am pleased that when Catherine Rinaldi became President of Metro North in 2018 she supported efforts to make train stations accessible for the disabled and elderly population. We’re super excited about Metro North’s initiative which will reduce stress for those who would like to be able to take the train from Hartsdale but have been unable to do so because of physical limitations. Other commuters who are elderly and slightly disabled have struggled to use the train station. A big thank you to Metro North.
