Proposal is in the concept stage. Watch link of discussion with Town Board
MOHAWK DAY CAMP WOULD LIKE TO BUILD A SEASON BUBBLE AS WELL AS A NEW BUILDING FOR CURLING, ATHLETIC TURF FIELD
At a recent work session of the Greenburgh Town Board representatives of Mohawk Day Camp (which is located off of Old Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh) presented a concept plan to the Town Board which includes some additions that would enhance amenities for the day camp and school, and in the off-season of the camp, be used by teams and organizations for sports purposes. Mohawk Day Camp in the following video link (https://youtu.be/MGK8EITEM0M) presented a proposed addition of a athletic turf field with a season bubble as well as an a new building which would be used seasonally for curling, with the same building used by the camp during camp season. Mohawk noted that the uses, when not being utilized by the Camp would be limited in nature such that there would not be tournaments or spectators. The uses would also be limited to specified times. The proposal would require review by the Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals as part of formal applications, all of which will include public meetings and public hearings. Mohawk intends to mark the location of the proposed field corners as well as the corners of the curling building so that the locations of these uses can be better understood in the context of their relation to homes in the neighborhood. The Town Board further recommended that a balloon be floated at the approximate height of the proposed bubble (50 ft.) be carried out, so that a better understanding of the vantage points in the neighborhood of where the sports bubble would or wouldn’t be able to be seen can be obtained. No formal applications have been submitted. Mohawk appeared before the Town Board as part of a pre-application meeting so that it could better understand concerns and obtain comments from the Board. Those comments and concerns can be viewed from the video link. The date of the balloon test will be posted on the town website when it is finalized.. During this time residents would be able to look for the balloon from any place of interest. The Applicant will also prepare a visual exhibit of the test which will be made a part of a formal submission, if the proposal moves forward by the Camp.
I would like to see a sidewalk built from Mohawk camp on Old Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh to Hillside Ave. This would enable pedestrians who use the services of the camp to walk from the Route 119 or from bus stops to the camp. I have started reaching out to the community near Mohawk Camp seeking their feedback about this proposal.
