State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins chose Greenburgh resident and Navy Veteran Carmine DiPasquale to honor as this year’s Veterans Hall of Fame inductee.

A ceremony was held June 7 in front of the Greenburgh Town Hall with notable attendees including Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, Greenburgh Veterans Advisory Committee Chair Hugh McAuley, Veterans Services Agency of Westchester Director Ronald Tocci, and local veterans representing the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Stewart-Cousins accepted many nominations from her constituents for this year’s inductee, but “Carmine was it,” she said, for his decorated service in the Navy during the height Cold War for which he suffered permanent hearing loss as well as his constant and continuous work as a civilian supporting veterans’ mental health.

In 2012, seeing the devastating effects Post Traumatic Stress Disorder had on our veterans, he helped form the Greenburgh Veterans Advisory Committee, whose primary mission has been to prevent veteran suicides.

The Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from New York State, with each senator nominating one veteran from their district. “You are a great, great hero,” Stewart-Cousins said, presenting DiPasquale with a plaque.

“Thanks to you, our community is so much better,” Feiner said. “You’re really one of the greatest assets in the Town of Greenburgh and the State of New York.”

“This induction is not about me, but veterans helping veterans,” DiPasquale said, humbly expressing his gratitude for the honor.
