4 out of 5 child safety seats are improperly installed, could yours be one of them?
Motor vehicle crashes re a leading cause of fatal injuries for children in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children from 2 to 14 years old.
On April 10, 1999 Police Officer Jason Caravaglia and the Greenburgh Police Department, in conjunction with the Westchester Safe Kids Coalition, opened a Child Safety Seat Inspection Station. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the department's inspection station is the first of its kind in the State of New York.
Certified police officers and volunteers inspect child safety seats.
The primary goal of the Child Safety Seat Inspection Station is to educate the public in the proper use of child safety seats.
The Child Safety Seat Inspectors will assist people with the proper installation of child safety seats. The inspectors will look for improperly installed, broken or recalled safety seats.
