Open Positions:  2–Senior Automotive Mechanics                     Department: Equipment Repair Bureau  

Job Group: TEAMSTERS                Salary: $75,738                  Work Week:  40 hours


Distinguishing Features of this Class:  Under general supervision of a higher level employee, the incumbent of this class is responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanical repair, diagnostic, and maintenance work on all types of automotive equipment, including heavy equipment vehicles e.g. tractor trailers, front end loaders, bulldozers, steam rollers, sweepers, etc. . .   The Senior Automotive Mechanic is responsible for carrying out a preventive maintenance program on municipal vehicles and for the required maintenance and mechanical repairs on disabled equipment in the field. Incumbents may be required to operate varied types of automotive equipment. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees.  Does related work as required.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience where the primary function of the position was maintenance and repair work on automotive and/or heavy motor equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  At the time of appointment, possession of a valid license, appropriate for the vehicle(s) to be operated and issued by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.  The appointing authority is responsible for verifying and ensuring that the candidate meets these conditions at the time of appointment and through the course of employment.
