POSITION:   1 – Park Superintendent (Promotional/Open)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Supervises the operations and maintenance of the town’s that consist of a 632.5 acre park system that includes 33 parks and various indoor and outdoor facilities. 
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS CLASS: Under direct supervision from the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Deputy Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, an incumbent in this position is responsible for the supervision of construction, along with improvement, maintenance and operation of parks and facilities in the Town’s park system, which includes but is not limited to wildlife preserves, historical interests, concessions, buildings, bridges, shelters, parking areas and natural areas.  These responsibilities may involve or include maintenance along segments of one or more trail ways, walking paths, etc.  The exercise of independent judgement within the framework of established department policies is required in determining work methods and priority projects. Supervision is exercised over a number of full time and seasonal park maintenance personnel.
