DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS CLASS: Under the general supervision of the Commissioner/Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Community Center located within the Theodore D. Young Community Center facility, an incumbent in this position is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of a wide-range of recreational, cultural, educational and social programs in the field of arts and culture. This is a responsible position, requiring extensive community knowledge and the ability to develop comprehensive activity programs serving all ages within the service area of the community center facility. Supervision is exercised over subordinate recreational/program staff. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of work experience in which the primary function of the position involved program planning and development within a public, private or not-for–profit sector.
SUBSTITION: Successful completion of 30 college credits towards a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Education or closely related field may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the work experience described above.
This is a competitive civil service position and the successful applicant must meet the minimum qualifications for this title, participate in the exam and be reachable to appoint into a permanent position.
