The Greenburgh Town Board held a Special Meeting Wednesday night, 9/19, for the purpose of setting a future public hearing to qualify for grant money, and authorizing two block parties.  These were the same topics on the agenda of the Special Meeting that was scheduled for last Friday and then cancelled.  That meeting was cancelled when the Town Attorney’s Office advised the board Friday morning that only five days advance notice in the newspaper of the public hearing was needed instead of the previous opinion from the Town Attorney’s Office that ten days was needed.  By meeting last night we met the revised deadline.

As expected, the pro-forma meeting lasted about seven minutes, with Supervisor Feiner, Councilmembers Steve Bass and I unanimously approving all items.  Due to the approaching deadline and pro-forma nature of the Special Meeting agenda, taking a procedural step to qualify for a grant and approving neighborhood block parties, the meeting was held without objection from Councilmembers Diana Juettner and Eddie Mae Barnes, who could not attend.

Supervisor Feiner volunteered to contact Dobbs Ferry officials about the public hearing, set for September 26, 2007.  The Town Board meeting starts at 7:15 PM.

The public hearing is intended to solicit comment about how property at 27 Main Street, Dobbs Ferry, which is owned by the town, may be made into a site for affordable housing while reducing the cost of the development of that affordable housing by applying for a significant NYS grant.  The grant could be as much as $400,000, according to our philanthropy department.  To qualify for the money in this allocation period, the application must be submitted by September 28, 2007, after holding a public hearing and complying with other requirements. 

Our philanthropy department, especially Winsome Gordon, is to be commended for bringing this grant opportunity to our attention, soliciting property suggestions, finding my recommendation of the property at 27 Main Street as a qualifying property, and working tirelessly to meet an almost impossible deadline of September 28. 

The Town Board looks forward to any input you wish to provide on this matter.
