WANTED--VOLUNTEER LAWYERS, ARCHITECTS, CONTRACTORS TO HELP FLOOD VICTIMS
Release Date: April 20, 2007

I met with  EastHartsdale Avemerchants who experienced flood damage today. Many of the businesses are facing very difficult times. They have incurred tens of thousands of dollars of damages. Some of the restaurants could be out of business for weeks.

A good suggestion was made: We need volunteer lawyers, architects, contractors to help the flood victims deal with the red tape and construction. If you are interested in helping out please let me know by e mailing me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com.
I am going to request the Town Board to waive all building construction permit fees and plan to have  office hours on E Hartsdale Ave beginning next week so that we can immediately respond to the problems each of the merchants have during these difficult times. I will be on the Ave, trying to help out daily.  I am also researching whether the town can provide additional financial assistance to the merchants who are experiencing financial problems. Some of these merchants were struggling before the storm – without help they could easily go under. That would be bad for our town.

We expect to allow tenants back into 180 E Hartsdale Avetoday. 170 E Hartsdale Avetenants are expected to go back to their homes tomorrow. The drug store should re-open today. Mobil should re-open today.  However, some of the other businesses will be out for weeks or longer.

We need to also focus attention on long term solutions – what action steps could/should be taken to reduce the possibility of flooding in the future.
