Hastings Memorial Day Parade to Honor Vietnam Veterans

on 50th Anniversary of U.S. Involvement in War

Parade starts at 2 PM

The annual Hastings on Hudson Memorial Day parade will be held on Sunday, May 24th. Hastings is a very picturesque village within the town of Greenburgh. If you haven't been to the Hastings parade in years past, try not to miss this parade. It's a small town at its best parade. I have attended every Memorial Day parade in Hastings for 33 years. And, always leave inspired. This year the parade will have special meaning. The village, in conjunction with the US Department of Defense, will be honoring those veterans who served in the Vietnam War. It's the 50th anniversary of the US involvement in the war.

According to the National Vietnam Veterans Association, of the 2,709,918 Americans who served in Vietnam, less than 850,000 are estimated to be alive today; the youngest American Vietnam veteran's age is roughly 58 years old. More than 50,000 American service personnel died in Vietnam.

Parade coordinator Lisa O’Reilly asks that any Westchester County military veteran of the Vietnam era join the Hastings parade. “We want to honor these brave Americans who served our country,” she said.

Veterans who register to participate using the form which follows will be given a special place in the parade, which will begin at 2 p.m. at Reynolds Field in the village, at the intersection of Broadway/Route 9 and Chauncey Lane. (Assembly begins at 1:30 p.m.) The assembling location is adjacent to Hastings High School.
