GREENBURGH TOWN BD TO VOTE ON BUDGET MONDAY NIGHT
Release Date: December 12, 2004
The Greenburgh Town Board will vote on the 2005 budget Monday night at 8:15 PM at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Ave. The December 8th Town Board meeting (including the budget hearing) can be seen on our web site: www.greenburghny.com (under archived meetings). Proposed changes in the budget can also be found on the web.
On Friday the members of the Town Board met to discuss possible changes in my proposed budget. I continue to disagree with some of the personnel additions being proposed. These additions will make it much harder to avoid double digit tax increases in the future -- especially if the library expansion referendum is approved.
The Town Board worked out some compromise language on Friday regarding the library expansion. The Library Board is pushing for a March referendum on the 20 million dollar proposed library expansion. I strongly object to a March referendum ---feel very few people will vote. I want the referendum to be held in November, when town elections are held. I also feel that a March referendum does not provide the community with adequate time to ask questions, digest the implications of the expansion and to review details of the proposal. The Town Board decided on Friday not to designate $30,000 for a March referendum. Instead, the Board will earmark $30,000 for the library expansion. This will enable the town to either hold a special referendum on the library or to spend the additional $30,000 on library expansion efforts (such as coming up with more detailed architect plans for the library expansion and cost analysis. I am pleased with this compromise. PAUL FEINER
