Possible 1,000 new construction jobs...250 permanent jobs...2 million in taxes if rezone is approved

These are difficult economic times. Representatives of the Landmark at Eastview appeared at the Greenburgh Town Boar work session today with some news that might make President Obama and the members of Congress smile: possible new jobs.
The Landmark (which currently is home to Madison Square Garden training facility and some bio tech companies like Regeneron)  consists of over 100 acres of vacant land. The owners of the property want a rezone and hope to develop a hotel on the property, stores, a proposed retail development (149,000 sq feet)…another retail (137,000 square feet), a third retail (65,000 square feet). If approvals are obtained for the rezone they estimate 1,000 new construction jobs…250 permanent jobs and 2 million dollars in taxes to the various levels of government plus significant building permit fees for the town.
The Town Board has to review the proposed zoning changes. Among issues to be considered: flooding—need for drainage improvements. And, traffic. The review could take about a year.
Unfortunately, in these difficult economic times governments have to cut back. One of the programs that we will be eliminating is the free leaf bag program that many residents looked forward to every year. The cost to the town: $10,750. In past years we hired some part timer’s to help distribute the bags which added to the cost. We have about 2,000 bags left over from last year but am not re-ordering.  These remaining bags will be available for pick up in October on a first come first serve basis.
