March 19 should the town allow marijuana sales within town after NYS legalizes marijuana
Release Date: March 12, 2019

AN IMPORTANT DISCUSSION ON TUESDAY MARCH 19TH AT OUR TOWN BOARD WORK SESSION AT 11 AM

SHOULD THE TOWN PASS A LAW BANNING OR ALLOWING MARIJUANA SALES WITHIN OUR BORDERS AFTER NYS LEGALIZES MARIJUANA?

We will hear from Colorado officials –learn their experiences----what questions would you like asked???

Governing Magazine wrote an article in their March issue—“momentum toward legalization of marijuana continues to grow. That doesn’t mean local officials have to like it. In fact, many of them have taken action to ban the possession of pot, including in states where recreational use is becoming acceptable.”

In NJ about 50 local governments have passed laws banning marijuana sales within their borders.  In Michigan about 80 communities have opted out of the legalization law.

Some people say that marijuana is no worse than tobacco or alcohol. Others claims that pot has gotten stronger over the past 20 years. What should the town do?

When I first started my career as Town Supervisor Phil Weiser worked with me. He is now Colorado Attorney General. I reached out to him asking who can provide us with information about the Colorado experiences since Colorado has legalized marijuana.. He recommended two officials who have agreed to speak to the Town Board via phone and to answer question.

If you have questions you’d like asked please e mail me townboard@greenburghny.com.  The bio’s of the two officials who will talk to the Board are below:
