GREENBURGH TOWN BOARD TO SUPPORT FERNCLIFF IF STATE COMMITS TO FUNDING--
Release Date: December 13, 2012

After much negotiations and dialogue with the County Legislature the Greenburgh Town Board unanimously wants to pursue a lease with Ferncliff Manor, an organization that provides services to the developmentally disabled community. This facility has been in existence for many decades and has been funded by the state. The present location is in Yonkers and is no longer feasible for their students. We issued an RFP and they came in with the most favorable terms to use the county property ($500,000 A YEAR TO THE TOWN). They offered the town $140,000 more than the second highest bidder. There is no impact on schools. No impact on services. They will have their own medical services on site, reducing the need for emergency services.
Their response is contingent on future state funding. Their ability to stay in Westchester and in NY is also contingent on state funding. The entire Town Board and I are reaching out to state officials seeking a commitment to provide the funding that Ferncliff needs to move the application forward. If the state provides the town with the commitments we need we will authorize the Town Attorney to proceed with the preparation of the lease.
At the Town Board meeting on December 12, 2012 Westchester County Legislator Gordon Burrows reported that he believes that there are at least 12 votes on the County Legislature out of seventeen members ready to vote to authorize the town to enter the lease with Ferncliff.
